Thursday January 24th - get by with a little help from your friends
Thursday, 24 January 2008
I often think that brides get a bad press. Whoever coined the term 'bridezilla' should be taken to one side as it has led to everyone believing that their newly-engaged friend is turning into an ogre just because they're sporting a rather sparkly rock on their left hand!
Don't get me wrong, I've met a few brides in my time who could easily have qualified for the name but it's normally a combination of stress, lack of time, 1001 other responsibilities, and more often than not a penchant for control-freakedness, that causes the problems!
And, believe it or not, that's easily solved! I speak to lots of brides who are worried that they're alienating their friends with their wedding talk, and I spoke to two today - hence the blog topic.
The fact that they're worried about it suggests that they're not the terrible people the media would have you believe they are. These are normal people, naturally excited about their big day and determined to make it one to remember. My usual advice is to get your friends, and family, on your side early by giving them permission to tell you if and when you become wedding obsessed, but also to recruit them into the fold by giving them tasks that are important to you and which will show them how much they mean to you.
Couples who work with Magic Dust also have the benefit of knowing they have a 'hotline' to me and that I'm never going to get bored of them talking to me about their wedding - in fact the more they do it the better I believe the service I offer them will be! It's a win:win scenario!
And if you have notoriously 'difficult' family and friends then remember, Magic Dust can play a very effective 'bad cop' role - a 'Girls Night In' session with the potentially troublesome ones allows me to lay down the ground rules that you may find hard to do (and if they get cross with me that's fine - it's much better than them getting cross with you!).
So, if you'd like Magic Dust to be your 'bad cop' click here to find out more about our 'Girls Night In' sessions. If you want to enquire about any of our other services, such as On The Day Coordination, please just click here to get in touch.
Until tomorrow,
