Gorgeous guest books

Saturday, 31 January 2009

There's nothing quite like curling up on the sofa after your wedding and reading the messages left by your family and friends in your guest book. That said, it is much easier said than done to get everyone to write a message so you need to put some thought into how it's actually going to happen.

You can go for the novelty factor and ask someone - or two - to spend an hour wandering round your reception taking Polaroid pictures of your guests. For this you need look no further than Instant Forever where you can flick through a real life guest book and order everything you'll need.

We've used Instant Forever on a number of occasions and they have never let us down - the quality is great and filled with photos and messages these books are just a fantastic memory of a great day.

If you'd prefer something more traditional, I can personally recommend Aspinal's leather guest books.

Whilst they're not cheap, they are absolutely stunning and a beautiful reminder of your day. Just don't forget to ask someone to take responsibility for getting your guests to write in it, and don't forget to provide some decent pens for them to write with!

If you'd like to see if we're free on your wedding date to be your 'On The Day' wedding co-ordinator so you too can relax and enjoy every second of your day and the run-up to it, or you would like to book a Girls Night In wedding planning session, or you simply have a wedding planning question that's keeping you awake at night, please get in touch - we're here to help!

It's stylish, it's green and it's gorgeous...

Friday, 23 January 2009

When I came across this idea on Danny Seo's blog (one of my favourite sources of creative inspiration) I knew I had to share it with you. Check out the port glass in the middle holding matches - how cute is that!

Source - DannySeo.typepad.com

Imagine the fun of searching for, and finding, enough interesting, chipped wine glasses and tumblers to create table centre pieces? You could involve your guests before the wedding by asking them to let you have any chipped wine glasses, and even create a competitive atmosphere by offering a prize for the most interesting story behind the damage!

Make life slightly easier for yourself if you prefer, by checking out the online store at www.greenunion.co.uk, where you'll find these gorgeous gold-trimmed glass candles for just £15 . Surround one of these with your recycled wine glasses (use tea lights to keep things simple) and you've got a beautiful, stylish and environmentally friendly table centre piece. What's not to like about that?

And just because I've already met and married the man of my dreams, don't think this idea won't be gracing a dinner table near me some time soon!

Until next week,

A simple, stylish way to personalise your day

Saturday, 17 January 2009

I just love this idea for its simplicity and the stunning way in which it draws your eye and instantly stamps your personality on your day - well, it doesn't get more personal than your initials, does it...

source: The Knot (http://www.theknot.com)

As well as being stylish, it is also affordable with Emily Readett-Bayley's online emporium stocking silver and gold letters from just £10 each.

Why not think about using slightly smaller letters to spell out your whole names, or maybe your new surname, and to take it one step further, you could use the 6cm letter tags as a beautiful alternative to place name cards.

What I really love about this idea is that it's not one of those things that you spend money on and then have absolutely no use for after your wedding day. Make sure your initials are taken home by somebody responsible and then display them in your home for a constant reminder of a fabulous day.

Check out this picture of me on our website and see if you can spot the 'Magic Dust' letters above my head . See, I really do practice what I preach!

Until next week,

Some welcome sunshine and a honeymoon tip

Sunday, 11 January 2009

You don't need me to tell you that it's really cold outside and, if you're anything like me, you're taking the term 'layering' to a whole new level at the moment.

So, let's talk beaches, sunshine and blue skies...

We took some time out recently to relax and enjoy Christmas with our family and friends, before jetting off to Cape Town to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the New Year in the sun! I find it impossible to completely switch off from wedding planning (that's what happens when you love your job!) and have returned inspired and with a fantastic new supplier to share with you.

Derwent House is a boutique hotel in Cape Town, perfectly positioned for the beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton as well as the bars and restaurants of Kloof Street. Take a look at the reviews of Derwent House on Trip Advisor to see what other people think too!

It felt as though we were staying with friends who were happy to let us do our own thing but were always on hand with a restaurant recommendation, advice on day trips, car hire and the like. Carol & Jo genuinely care about their guests having a great time and they have earned every single one of their fans.

So, if you are thinking about planning your honeymoon, or want to inspire the person who is planning your honeymoon, drop Cape Town and Derwent House into the conversation. It's the perfect destination for a sunny honeymoon between November and March, with nearly 11 hours of sunshine a day. The fact that there's only 2 hours time difference from the UK means you won't have to worry about jet lag spoiling your trip, and there is so much to do in and around the city that boredom just isn't an option.

Why not go one step further and look into getting married in Cape Town! There are no residency requirements and you can actually get married on the beach - Llandudno beach just south of Cape Town is a favourite spot for wedding ceremonies. There's more information about getting married in South Africa here.

And, if you do go, make sure to say hi to Carol & Jo from me. On second thoughts, you'd better check the sunny spot by the pool as there's every chance I'll be sat there again some day!

We're taking bookings for 'On The Day' wedding co-ordination right through 2009 and 2010 so, if you'd like to find out if we're free on your wedding date so you can relax and enjoy every second of your day and the run-up to it, or you would like to book a place on one of our 2009 Wedding Planner Master Class courses or you simply have a wedding planning question that's keeping you awake at night, please get in touch - we're here to help!
